Concerts, Speakers, and Spring

April 29th, 2010 § 0 comments

It’s spring here in Encinitas, and I’m not convinced that I like spring in SoCal very much.  The weather is fickle and the waves are kinda so so.  It hasn’t been very warm here either…pretty cool actually.  I think it was warmer in New York recently than here in San Diego.  Anyway, I’m thinking of going home to visit soon, just have to figure out when!

I ordered speakers for my new computer over the internet and they’re amazing.  However, I did not realize that the subwoofer was going to weigh FORTY POUNDS.  The thing is a beast!  I couldn’t even lift the box into my room when it came via FedEx.  I was like…I ordered speakers not bowling balls right?  Anyway, the thing seriously rattles the apartment if I crank it up.  It’s a very rewarding bass sound.  However I have neighbors in the apartment that’s next to mine and we share a wall, so I really can’t play it that loud.  They would want to come over and shoot me.

Meanwhile, the latest thing I’ve been doing with my friends is going to all these concerts.  The bands are known, but not super popular so the venues are small.  Last night we went to see Phantogram, an amazing duo from New York (although they’re from upstate, so are they really from New York?  We’ll give em a pass this time.)  I found out about them from one of those free Starbucks music giveaways and the rest is history.  I figured it was right up my friends alley so got them into it as well.  We went to see them at the Casbah in San Diego, and they played with the Antlers who were also amazing live.

Phantogram is coming back to San Diego in a month to play at the House of Blues with the xx so we are going to go to that show too.  We are obsessed.  I loved the girl Sarah Barthel – great style and stage presence.  And I would love to have her hair.  I have a feeling Phantogram is going to get very popular – it’s only a matter of time.  I was shopping at the mall and one of their songs was playing in the store Anthropologie.

Until next time faithful readers….
